Technical Business Analyst

Full Time

This is an integral role supporting UWLM in applying analytics to better communicate impact and increase philanthropic throughput. The position is responsible for developing and preparing effective performance reporting tools and strategic planning/goal setting models; conducting comprehensive analysis using data analytics; converting data into knowledge that can be applied to strategy and key performance indicators, and contributing input on organizational strategic planning and fundraising initiatives. This position is also responsible for leading and/or participating in organizational initiatives related to research, reporting and analytics. As well, this position is responsible for key operational elements related to data management, structure and governance.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibility Area: Business Process Improvement

  • Review methodologies, procedures and workflow and develop, implement and provide training on techniques to improve operating efficiency
  • Develops and manages documented guidelines, processes and instructions
  • Provides input into Process Mapping initiatives and contributes to the organization’s data mapping, data governance framework and structure
  • Analyzes and identifies process-based improvements to further ongoing strategic initiatives

Key Responsibility Area: Strategic Planning and Goal Setting

  • Develops effective fundraising campaign strategic planning models; Develops and implements organizational data models
  • Develops annual campaign financial and activity goal setting models
  • Leads the process for translating the annual organizational goals into KPI and metrics
  • Develops and presents Global Analysis (including appropriate benchmarking reporting and insights) for annual planning meetings

Key Responsibility Area: Reporting and Analytics

  • Develops performance reporting tools; and supports a dashboard for monitoring of key metrics including financial performance
  • Conducts comprehensive analysis highlighting key insights and recommendations
  • Lead and/or participate in organizational initiatives related to research, reporting and/or analytics

Key Responsibility Area: Campaign Timeline and Data Management

  • Develops and monitors annual campaign activity timeline in consultation with Resource Development, Management Team
  • Improves customer experience by development and testing of communication, stewardship and solicitation strategies
  • Create structural design to meet the needs of the organization overall for efficiency and utility of the campaign
  • Identifies and fulfills informational materials and setup requirements in order to prepare for the annual campaign
  • Analyzes problems related to data input/extraction

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • An undergraduate degree from a Post-Secondary institution focusing on Computer Science Engineering, business, financial management, economics, or statistics
  • Three years’ experience as a business or data analyst, that includes experience in researching, organizing, analyzing, and presenting data (including dashboards) for management use
  • High degree of proficiency in the use of databases, spreadsheets, project management tools and data analytic tools (Databases, APIs, Spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Experience with development life cycles; Agile development is preferred
  • Experience with any of the following is an asset, but not required; Advanced data analytics, Machine Learning, Predictive Modelling
  • Knowledge related to fundraising and philanthropy is an asset
  • Advanced Skills in SQL development, and in depth grasp of SQL reporting, analytics, and Business Intelligence
  • In depth knowledge and experience of PowerBI (Desktop and Service), and associated languages (PowerQuery, DAX)
  • Knowledge of Python or other scripting language is an asset; CSS, API’s, and HTML knowledge also considered an asset
  • Ability to use and interpret contact management databases; and skilled in evaluating, developing, and implementing processes and procedures to achieve objectives and use data effectively
  • Understanding of relational databased and object-oriented programming languages is an asset
  • Ability to manage and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment by adapting and modifying the sequence of work, methods, and standards to meet changing conditions
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to developing a successful team environment
  • Strategic thinker with well-developed problem solving skills
  • Must respect a high level of confidentiality; ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions is critical
  • Ability to communicate complex data (including key insights and recommendations) in an understandable manner to a variety of audiences and organizational levels

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some hours outside of business hours to attend meetings and events
